Hi,
Thank you for stopping in and viewing my upcoming blog. My first blog will be ready very shortly. As way of introducing my blog, I named it Sportmetrica; a bit of a play on words from my academic past. The intent is to focus primarily on sports analytics and the role of data in understanding sporting results and smaller things like what is a good matchup and what is a bad matchup. I hope to start discussions on interesting topics and keep everyone's attention.
Although the blog is primarily about sports and data, I reserve the right to talk about things I find interesting even if it is not directly related to sports and data. These topics may range from general sports observations to anything that happened to interest me that day. The general goal is to entertain and inform, but I will keep the topics primarily focused sports and data and not wander away from that for any length of time.
I come by interest in sports honestly. Some of my earliest memories are watching football games on TV with my Dad. I remember hitting, or trying to hit, pitches from my dad night after night. I remember having ground ball after ground ball hit my chest until I got it right.
Mom and Dad always came to my Little League games, high school basketball and baseball games, and even travelled to most of my college basketball games. I was very lucky to have supportive parents and the thought of sporting events brings about good memories. Though, at some point, it became obvious that I wasn't going to make a living playing sports and that my true calling may just be in math and analytics.
Enough set-up. Thank you again for visiting this site and I will post my first meaningful blog soon. So check back and I hope I can make you think a little.
